About Catharine's

Our Company

We believe that a person's quality of life is enriched by remaining in a residential home setting for as long as possible. After all, it is the environment in which the majority of people grew up and raised their families. Its familiarity helps people feel relaxed, comfortable, safe and secure. This is particularly true for persons with dementia.

Catharine's Quality of Life Homes are not just "home-like" they are beautiful, residential homes located in quiet, well-established neighborhoods. Catharine's specializes in caring for persons with Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias and sets the standard for dementia care in the state of Colorado.

Our Background

Catharine's Quality of Life Homes was started in 1992, by Dick and Penny Page in response to the care needs of Dick's mother who had both Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Catharine's quality of life became such an important family issue that Dick built a home for her and took a leave of absence from the "corporate world" to care for her personally. Caring for his mother was such a life-changing experience that he never returned to the corporate world and provided the "hands-on" care for his mother and other persons for nine years. With this experience, he personally understands your family's concerns and fears and your loved-one's needs.

Our Commitment to Serve

Dick's family's personal commitment and passion for caring for persons with Alzheimer's disease goes beyond operating assisted living homes. The Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter provided critical support and education when Dick and Penny were addressing Catharine's challenging care needs. Utilizing his expertise and passion for serving the needs of persons with Alzheimer's, as well as their families, Dick is currently serving or has served the Alzheimer's Association in the following capacities over the past ten years.

  • Member Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter: Board of Directors
  • Education Committee: educates families and professional staff
  • Public Policy Committee: affects positive Alzheimer's legislative policy at both state and national levels
  • Instructor at the Alzheimer's Association Learning Institute: educates other metro area assisted living and nursing home staffs in addition to the families of persons with Alzheimer's disease.
  • Speakers Bureau: gives educational talks to Denver metro area families and organizations.
  • Facilitated an Alzheimer's Family Support Group: supports and educates families as they cope with a loved one's dementia.

Our Owners

Catharine's Quality of life Homes is owned and operated by a husband and wife team: Dick and Penny Page. Prior to starting Catharine's, Dick's background was in research and teaching and Penny's in primary education. Penny's grandparents lived with her family when she was a teenager, and that experience gave her a first-hand respect and knowledge of their lives, interests, and needs.

Our Staff

We take great pride in the staff that cares for our residents. Our Dementia Care Specialists are highly dedicated, caring and compassionate individuals who have a desire to serve and a heart to care for those persons with Alzheimer's. We specifically hire those whose lives have been touched personally by dementia. Many have cared for a loved one with dementia. These caregivers have a genuine empathy for and patience to care for persons with dementia.

Our Dementia Care Specialists receive extensive and broad-based initial training. Dick personally trains staff on a wide range of Alzheimer's topics that he also teaches at the Alzheimer's Learning Institute. These courses include:

  • Alzheimer's Disease Overview and Introduction to Other Types of Memory Impairments
  • How to use Effective Communication Techniques
  • How to Address Challenging Behaviors
  • Validation Therapy
  • How to Lead Dementia Appropriate Activities
  • Music Therapy for Persons with Dementia

On-going education and training is provided by Dick, Penny and the house manager who work in the homes each day to lead and train by example. As residents progress through the Alzheimer's disease process, we continuously review and up-date our staff training to focus on care strategies that will minimize resident daily stress and anxiety.

We attract and maintain excellent staff by training them well, paying them well, and providing them with daily supportive oversight, and continuous on-going training. We have been fortunate to have some staff working with us since 1998.
